A brief history of Waverly Hills:
Waverly Hills Sanatorium,
in Louisville, Kentucky, is an abandoned tuberculosis sanatorium which originally opened in 1926. Over the years the
deadly and untreatable disease claimed thousands of lives at the facility. In those days tuberculosis was virtually
always fatal, and those who suffered from it were given plenty of sunshine, fresh air, and hearty meals. Often all that
could be done for the patient was to make them as comfortable as possible. Experimental procedures were attempted, including
the insertion of syringes into the lungs to attempt to relieve pressure. Still, MANY patients eventually succumbed to
the incurable disease.
To help preserve
the morale of the patients, a steam tunnel running several hundred feet from the main building to the roadway below was often
used to transport the bodies of those who died to hearses waiting at the bottom of the hill. This tunnel has come to
be known as "The Death Tunnel".
Waverly Hills finally ceased to function as a hospital in the 1960's
when antibiotics became readily available to fight the infection. It eventually became a geriatric home, but finally
closed it's doors for good in the early 1980's.
Many paranormal researchers consider
Waverly Hills to be one of the most haunted locations in the country.

iGHOST visited Waverly Hills on September 14, 2006, and would like
to extend a very special thanks to Mike Flickner of Southern Indiana Ghost Hunters (SIGH) for
his invaluable assistance with this investigation! Visit SIGH here!
Below are some photographs taken during the investigation, as well
as three EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomenon)
captured at Waverly Hills. All evidence submitted on this site is subject to interpretation

Room 502 is the most famous single room at the complex. Years ago a pregnant nurse aborted her child in this room and then promptly hung herself. Room 502 is considered highly active.

This is the skylight outside of room 502 that the nurse is reported to have hung herself from. Originally there was a steel bar running across the middle of it.
