Construction began on the Kentucky State Office Building in 1937
and was ready for use in 1940. The building was built on the grounds of the former Kentucky State Penitentiary, and some original structures remain in the area.
The
building has recently been under renovation and is slated to re-open in early 2007. Several workers in the bulding have
reported being touched or grabbed, and more than one worker felt that he was intentionally tripped while walking down some
steps.
iGHOST joined members of SIGH to investigate the building on November
11, 2006.
Unfortunately this investigation did not yield much activity. Some investigators heard voices coming
from areas that were vacant, or saw fleeting movement from the corner of their eye, but for the most part the activity was
minimal at best. We were unable to turn off many of the lights in the building (whether or not that had anything to do with
our lack of finding any real evidence is questionable).
We would like to share one piece of audio that we captured.
On the second floor, in a large room across from the elevators, we heard a crunching sound coming from the hallway.
There were thin boards stacked and overlapping along the floor per the renovation, and we believe the sound
we captured may be of one of the boards snapping as it is stepped on.
We had a fairly large team
with us that night, and had split into two groups. The second group was on another floor at the time. You will
hear one of SIGH's investigators say "We're just going to stay still for just a bit and see if we can pick something
up", and then you will hear him turn off his tape recorder at about the 7-8 second mark. Another recorder in the
room was still recording and captures the sound at the 14 second mark.
