History of the Location and Claims of Activity

This is a private residence located in Liberty, IN. The history of the home is vague, but from what was gathered, the home appears to have been built in the early 1800’s. The home was owned by the Rose brothers, who sold the home to the current home owner’s great grandfather. Since then, the home has remained in the family.  It is said that one of the Rose brothers had buried money in the backyard. Ever since the home owner placed an underground fence in the backyard for their dogs, she states the activity has increased. She states most of the activity happens in her bedroom, and now refuses to sleep in her room. She also states that activity increases when she is sitting next to her fiancée.  Most of the activity happens at night. She recently had the home blessed, and states the activity ceased for a while, but is now increasing again. The home owner is clearly and genuinely scared of whatever is going on in her home, and has put the house up for sale.  Below are some of the claims of activity.

  • Items are rearranged in a bathroom adjacent to her bedroom.
  • Covers being pulled off her head.
  • The client feels her hair being "played with".
  • The homeowner has taken pictures of an abnormal mist in her home. It is important to note that the home owners smoke. They have tried to debunk the pictures themselves by taking pictures of cigarette smoke but were unable to duplicate the mist in the photo.
  • Shuffling footsteps heard in the bedroom.
  • The bed pushes down as if someone is sitting on it.
  • The client feels a burning sensation, described as labor pains, in her lower back. She claims to feel the presence of the “spirit”, making her legs go numb.
  • The sound of something playing with change on the nightstand.
  • Brushes against the dog’s cage.
  • The client feels like something is crawling on her at night.

Personal Experiences

  • Since most of the activity happens in the home owner’s bedroom, both an investigator and the home owner laid down on her bed and began an EVP session. When the home owner started asking questions, a scratching sound was heard to the left of her. It appeared to be coming from her dresser. When she would ask if the spirit was related to her, no noise was heard. When asked if it was one of the Rose brothers, the scratching noise was heard again. When asked if the spirit was upset with her, no noise was heard. When asked if the spirits money was missing, the scratching noise was heard again. When asked if the Rose brother lived in the home, no noise was heard. When asked if he owned the home, scratches were heard. This went on for about a half an hour, appearing to answer the questions asked by scratching on the dresser.
  • An investigator was touched by something unseen. It felt as if something was crawling on her. Nothing was seen at the time. (See below for further information)
  • Shuffling footsteps heard upstairs.
  • An investigator and the home owner complaining of “labor-type pains.”

Attempting to Debunk Claims

  • Upon reviewing DVR footage, the claim of the investigator being touched was debunked. You can clearly see a mouse crawling on the bed toward the investigators head (see below for a link to the video). This was not seen at the time of occurrence. This now explains the scratching noises being heard, the change being played with and the claim of something touching the home owner. Although the scratching noises seemed to answer the questions asked, we have to conclude this was purely coincidental. This could also explain the shuffling footsteps heard, as this could be mice scurrying around the house. We suggested the home owner places mouse traps throughout her home. If the activity persists after the mice have been caught, then we will gladly re-investigate the home again.

Base Readings

  • Bedroom EMF 0.2, Temperature 68.2.
  • Bathroom EMF 0.1, Temperature 67.
  • Living room EMF 0.2, Temperature 65.4.
  • Side room EMF 0.2, Temperature 64.5.

Evidence Captured

  • There was no evidence noted on DVR, digital camera, audio recordings or video recordings. We do, however, have the conversation with the responding scratching noises on audio. The interesting thing is that the home owner spoke to her relatives about the Rose brothers. She found out the middle brother hung himself approx. 50 yards away from her house, and that the Rose brothers owned the home but did not live in it. She had no previous knowledge of this prior to the investigation. This just seems to correlate with the responses we were getting when the scratching noises indicated that the Rose brother did not live in the home.  The scratching noises may have been coincidental, but it was rather odd to have the “mouse” scratching to questions on command.
