Ohio State Reformatory, Mansfield, OH
On April 12, 2008, iGHOST visited and investigated
the historic Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. Situated on the grounds of a former Civil War training camp,
construction began in November of 1886, and in it's heyday housed over 900 prisoners, usually in very cramped cells.
The prison ceased operation in 1990 when a new prison was built on the grounds. The Ohio State Reformatory has
been featured in several films including "Air Force One" (1997), "Tango and Cash" (1989), and most notably
"The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), in which several scenes were filmed both inside the prison and on the grounds.
Ever since the prison closed it has been a mecca for ghost enthusiasts, offering overnight ghost hunts and ghost
tours. The prison has a reputation among ghost hunters and paranormal investigators as being extremely active.

During
the course of the investigation, iGHOST explored the entire prison, conducted EVP sessions and took various photographs.
There were a lot of people there that night which made it difficult to conduct the investigation due to background
voices and noises made by other investigators. However, in one of the cells, Erica’s backpack became
unzipped and some of its contents spilled onto the floor. The backpack was certainly zipped up before she
entered the cell, and upon investigating the cause, we could find no answers. The contents of the backpack
were not heavy enough to force open the zipper if shifted in a certain way. The incident remains unexplained
to us.
